Comparing the Meerkat is racist, according to the Guardian

We aren’t really sure how to react to this article in the Guardian from Saturday. Give it a read yourself and tell us what you make of it because the Meerkat series of adverts from comparethemarket.com has to be one of our favourite advertising campaigns of all time. I’m not sure that thinking Eastern European meerkats on t’interwebs are awesome makes us racist at all… perhaps it’s time to stop reading the Guardian.

The advertisement centres on the word “market” – a word that eastern Europeans/Russians pronounce “meerkat” – using talking CGI-animated meerkats. The sole point of this African animal’s appearance is, it seems, to highlight the idea that east Europeans cannot pronounce the word market properly
