As you can all see we’ve been changing the layout of the site a little bit to try and make the site a little less cluttered, a little more navigable and to swap some features in and out so we hope you approve.

The first things you’ll notice are the banner change up at the top and the removal of the left sidebar. It seemed to us that in the old layout we really had 2 banners, one with an image and logo and the other with the text, just sitting on top of each other so to save space and get more content above the fold we’ve created a new stylised header from our logo. The left sidebar wasn’t being used for anything except showcasing the daily pictures but since that ran its course and was not longer being updated as frequently we decided to remove it. All of the old images can still be found in the gallery up the top and on the right we’ve established a flickr photo stream for the more regular but slightly less themed images we take.

The layout of the blog posts has also changed a little, moving the by-line and tags to the top and limiting the post width to a more standard and readable dimension.

And finally we’ve had to bite the bullet and include some advertising on the site. It’s only a very small amount and we hope it’s as unobtrusive as possible but we have always thought it would be nice if the site somehow in the future managed to pay for itself, so please forgive us this small sin. In the 2 days it’s been live we’ve had 1 advert clicked on generating an earthshakingly impressive 15p for the site so with a few more of those and all of your continued support we’ll be well on the way to breaking even.

If you spot any more changes or see some things that we missed or that you just love, do let us know in the comments!

Some of you may have noticed a distinct lack of any blogging recently aside from the seemingly compulsory pic a day updates and frankly the last 2 have been a little ropey. Well this is all because I have literally been consumed by Zombies, Plants Vs Zombies to be precise. About 10 days ago Popcap games unleashed this hugely addictive tower defender game on to the world and I have to say that I immediately became a massive fan and have spent pretty much every spare momentI can charging through it at speed.

The idea is that of course, Zombies are attacking your house and you’ve got to fend them off wave after wave. The only weapons at your disposal are the plants you’ve been expertly growing and a few upgrades you can buy from your insane and escellently voiced neighbour, if you can collect enough money to pay him that is. As you progress through the various stages and defend new areas of the homestead you will pick up more plants with new abilities and encounter increasingly more cunning zombies, my favourites so far being the Michael jackson thriller zombie and the zombie bobsled teams!

As I’ve mentioned this game has absolutely massive appeal, the artwork is engaging, the audio is really well crafted and funny and the game has been thoroughly well balanced. At no point have I either felt like there was not enough challenge in a level of as if I was going to be overwhelmed by the sheer impossibility of it all. Also this title has really impressive support, popcap having already produced their own Youtube music video for the game and a small and funny LARP series of zombie office worker scenarios which are also worth a watch.

I highly recommend you download the trial for this yourself and if the £14 price tag is too high you can always petition Popcap for parity with the American market or of course, borrow from a friend.

“get ready to soil your plants”
